My Parents Are Just Over Protective

Just before Brooke was 2 months old, I noticed while nursing her that her head was growing uneven. Her forehead was more forward on the right side than her left. Also in the back her right side was then more shallow. Some research and a visit with Dr.J. later, we worked on tummy time, laying her on the left hand side etc to even her melon out. At 4 months of age, it had improved a lot, but still not even. So Dr.J. referred me to a Cranial Specialist to help get Brooke's head straight.

They evaluated her, and actually told me that we could not treat her, and she wouldn't get worse, but that her head would remain uneven. The real concern was her jaw being pushed to the right. So we opted to get the orthopedic helmet.

First she had to go into a imaging machine that would help them make a graph of her head. To do this they put a stocking over her head. She took it well and just kept sticking her tongue against it.
isn't that the cutest picture? I call it the Love Bandit!

Then they use the computer image to make a creepy mold of the baby's head with no face! With that mold they make the helmet for the baby. So you may now see Brooke looking like this.

She hates it. She scratches at it and is more grumpy.
However she still manages to be cute. Right now as I write this she isn't wearing it, because she sweated too much and developed a heat rash. Once the skin heals she is back in it.
So in 8-10 weeks she should get her head on straight. :)

Haha! She still looks cute & yes, maybe a tad more feisty. But then again, she is her mother's daughter. :) hehe
